Conquistador

by Stone Healer

pinkytheent This album careens with raw emotion, overwhelming and delicate, sharp as an obsidian edge. Bursts of color and smothering weight. Strong hints in my mind of Cicada the Burrower’s fantastic release. Favorite track: Until My Will Is Gone.

Pentakilljoy Whiplash is generally not a good thing, except when it comes to roller coasters and Stone Healer. The songwriting is disparate, barely stopping short of becoming chaotic, but it makes for a thrilling ride. A fresh, unique album that will never become boring to me. Favorite track: Surrender.

TheEliteExtremophile Conquistador excels at sharp contrasts between pummeling, scouring black metal and melodic hard rock and alt-rock influences. During their runtimes, the songs both take surprising turns and evolve in ways which feel natural.

One Whisper 08:48
Outside the frame of the vision I’ve ignored I trust my brain to deceive me evermore I never let it go What am I waiting for? Outside the frame I’ve been static for too long In place of pain take this answer and leave the world alone I never let it go Maybe I could have fought the thoughts that kill and gotten out before One whisper is all I hear Seductive piece of fear is all I need to breathe It shatters the crystal heart, all I’m taught to feel Exhale and be at peace Now my body’s brought to heel So follow one last empty threat with empathy Hollow be my final breath Release me, apathy Empty of mind, present of heart I’m free from my own guilt The shell I create, unyielding outside the frame One whisper to break my fall One whisper to keep my bristled hands grounded here I’d have taken a return to Earth away from her dead stare One whisper sprout from the glare of her furrowed brow You can see the roots of her silence And feel them grasp for air One whisper, it never let me go
2.
Whence shall I Bend over, exert myself to some outer limit Where pain exists, beyond Within lies one deep breath of relief As I move the sweat from my forehead to my forearm The sun is too hot but I am too strong To stop here, keep keeling over To lay my head to rest Not today, not today, not yet

Surrender 11:09
I can see the height of life, of consciousness From my hidden perch, an epiphany Like the first light of day, opened my soul And filled it with beauty We planted this garden Whose songs you had me sow Together we harvest, and better they grow With my sight and your power… We knew what there was to know Left alone in the path of God I surrender my body My life on this Earth And for it, my mistake in judgment Has left me shrouded in doubt I wander through the memory of the day my spirit broke And vividly now I recall how I poured my grief-stricken water Time don’t heal every wound But it set me free Loyal to every fault And it’s killing me Have you felt the weight of time, a burden On my careless flight through eternity Like the last breath of night, there’s solace in dawn For all those who seek it
4.
Raging torrent of flame Your voice is the sound of anguish of undying love, unyielding feeling It screams from within the cavern of light that is my heart How I long for this Earthly dance to be seared in parallel two standing pillars of flame They find themselves grounded here Burning with passion and yet blind to the other You saw me too, my blue hand in yours Yet this what I choose The anguish I knew, I still let it happen Don’t ever tell no one the truth You saw me, and I held on tight And all I felt was the heat of your hand (it burned mine) You saw the chain around my neck And pulled it tight The answers in your palm are just as true as mine
5.
I lay down my arms My tools, my weapons too I beg of you, you ghosts of lives passed Forgive me, forgive me For years I tried to fight those most painful memories Of what I’ve done and where I’ve been They made me what I am And yet I’d trade it all I swear again My body means nothing I swear it one last time Let it rot, let it die for all I care My body means nothing Let me gasp for air one last time ...and take from me the earth on which I kneel and pray The furnace of bones conceals me From desperate attempts to surrender I search for the key every second I live to show I’ve closed my eyes Convinced to resign, my heart may be But my soul won’t give itself up Until my will is gone I’ve given you all that I can What more does it mean to surrender my body, my mind? I swear again My body means nothing Will you give me one last chance to set you free? I lay down my arms in surrender My tools, my weapons too; will you forgive me? What she demanded from me is not mine to give My soul’s alone, until my will is gone

My horse aflame I am the eyes in the night Through the fog of time he carries me Faith, take these reigns! and string them through my crown He is the sail to my soul And we storm with passion I tried to break the wheel My golden path turned gray Heart wet with pain Have I dove into a net? Planted seeds of hate from within me? I thought the sudden jolt was a current of light Relieving me of the burden of being your new eyes But when those loving rays - - they pulled me out of mind The color gone, and blind I fell into the spoke of night

about

Conquistador is a cathartic retelling of my own spiritual extortion, in which the themes of allowance, forgiveness, letting go, and mistaken divinity play central roles. The Conquistador, as depicted by artist Leo Ulfelder, is a representation of egotistical arrogance, the illusion of invincibility, and self-appointed divinity in the same way that conquistadors during the Age Of Discovery believed themselves to be ordained by God throughout their terrorization of newfound worlds.

My personal terrorizer perfectly played the role of conqueror under the false guise of divinity. A fearsome force who claimed to be God On Earth, who took everything from me but my will itself, who killed and felt no remorse because it was "God's Plan", who ripped me from my family and loved ones through an inception-like manipulation. She embodied everything it meant to be a conquistador of old while turning my mind, body, and spirit into her personal battleground.

We are all capable of unconditional love. For ourselves, for others, for our loved ones, and for our enemies. It is a conscious choice, and it is the most powerful weapon we have in our arsenal. It is the sunflower that opposes the shadow of ego, without thought or judgment. It is the light refracting through the darkest spoke of night. It is our intuition and it is our guide.
